Toney SEC Player of the Week. Special Teams

SPECIAL TEAMS
Kadarius Toney, PR, Florida

  • Toney returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown which proved to be the decisive score in the game as Florida defeated Kentucky, 34-10, on Saturday.
  • With the Gators trailing 10-7 late in the first half, Toney’s return for a touchdown flipped the game’s momentum back to Florida, giving them a 14-10 edge at halftime, which was a lead that the Gators wouldn’t lose again.
  • Toney is the third Gator since at least 1996 to score a passing, rushing, receiving and punt return touchdown in a career, joining Jacquez Green and Antonio Callaway.
  • Toney’s 50-yard punt return touchdown was the Gators’ first punt return touchdown since Freddie Swain’s 85-yarder for a touchdown against Colorado State on Sept. 15, 2018.

The Trumpet Summons Us. By Bill Bennett

The Trumpet Summons Us Again
On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald during a visit to Dallas, Texas. This somber anniversary is a good time to remember the stirring words the young president offered the nation in his inaugural address, less than three years before his death:

Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe.

Now the trumpet summons us again – not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need – not as a call to battle, though embattled we are – but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, “rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation,” a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself. . . .

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility – I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it. And the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. . . .

With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own.

Kyle Trask sets SEC Record

Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask set a new Southeastern Conference record for touchdowns in conference games on a throw to Kadarius Toney for his 29th of the season.

Trask went 4-for-6 passing on the first drive for UF, marching 71 yards downfield for the score averaging 11.8 yards per reception. The touchdown and point after tied the game up 7-7 after Ken Seals took his team to the endzone on the opening possession of the game.

Coming into the game, Trask has been on fire six games into his redshirt senior season, amassing 2,171 yards on 148-for-211 passing with 28 touchdowns and just three interceptions. His passing percentage of 70.1 percent and completion average of 10.3 yards per reception are next-level numbers that have separated him from the pack as one of the best quarterbacks in college football.
