DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 900 AM GMT (0900 UTC), the center of Subtropical Storm Wanda was
located near latitude 36.5 North, longitude 43.9 West. The storm is
moving toward the east-southeast near 16 mph (26 km/h)  A turn
toward the southeast at a slower forward speed is expected later
today.  A turn to the northeast or north is forecast to occur on
Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
Slight strengthening is possible during the next couple of days.

Winds of 40 mph extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the
center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb (29.15 inches).

At 1100 PM AST (0300 UTC), the center of Subtropical Storm Wanda was
located near latitude 36.2 North, longitude 45.4 West. The storm is
moving toward the southeast near 21 mph (33 km/h), and a slower 
southeast to east-southeast motion is expected during the 
next day or two.  A turn to the northeast or north is forecast to 
occur on Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.
Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.

Winds of 40 mph extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the
center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 988 mb (29.18 inches).

Gators volleyball travels to Alabama

Get ready for the rival game of the season. Florida volleyball (12-6, 6-2) will play Alabama (9-9, 1-5) tonight at 8 p.m. in Tuscaloosa.

Star Setter

The Gators have the accomplishments of six-foot setter Marlie Monserez going into tonight’s game. Monserez is currently ranked third in the conference with 11.09 assists per set.

  • Monserez was awarded her fourth setter of the week title on Oct. 18.
  • Had four digs, three kills and two blocks in their last game against Texas A&M.
  • Monserez leads the team with a high hitting percentage of .438.
  • AVCA All-American Honorable Mention. (2020)
  • AVCA All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention. (2020)
  • Three-time 2020-21 SEC Setter of the week.

Season Highlights

Florida’s 2021 season has twice as many wins than losses.

Under the longstanding head coach, Mary Wise, who has had 979 coaching victories in her career, which is the fourth most in Division I history. This season’s accomplishments are no different.

In the 2021 season so far they have scored a total of 895 kills, 832 assists and 925 digs. They also have a winning percentage of .667.

Will Volleyball History Repeat Itself?

Last year, Florida dominated Alabama (25-21, 25-17, 25-22).

The two outside hitters that contributed to the win include Thayer Hall and T’ara Ceasar managing 26 kills.

Gators Volleyball has had a history of consistently ranking higher than Alabama. Last season, Alabama had a 7-15 record, when Florida was 21-4.  Also, Florida volleyball currently sits at 23rd in the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Florida volleyball has never lost to the Crimson Tide, so it would be a shocking loss if the Gators can’t keep their momentum going to secure the next win.

Tonight’s matchup will take place inside the Foster Auditorium and will be broadcasted on ESPNU.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Florida senior Colin Castleton enters the upcoming 2021-22 season with great expectations on his shoulders from Gators fans, after averaging 12 points and six rebounds a game in his junior campaign for the orange and blue.
Now, he’s being recognized as one of the best players in the entire Southeastern Conference.
Castleton was voted to the Preseason First Team All-SEC roster on Monday. He was also the only player from Florida to be named to either the First or Second All SEC team.
His 2.25 blocks per game last season was one of the top five single-season best performances in school history.
Castleton will play a key role this season as a team leader on and off the floor for Florida.
He and the Gators will try to build on their momentum when they tip off Tuesday, Nov. 9, against Elon at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

Florida coach Dan Mullen wouldn’t commit to naming a starting quarterback for his team’s Oct. 30 game against No. 1 Georgia.
Emory Jones started at quarterback during last Saturday’s loss at LSU, but did not play down the stretch as Anthony Richardson led the offense on four straight touchdown drives in the second half.
“We’re really fortunate we have two good quarterbacks here,” Mullen said Wednesday.
He pointed out how when both quarterbacks have been healthy, both have played during games.
“I see us continuing down that path,” he said.
He later added, “Like everything, we’ll look at everything and we evaluate everything we do.”
Mullen balked at a direct question whether Jones would be the quarterback during the first play from scrimmage against Georgia, saying he wouldn’t “get into strategy.”
Jones has started every game this season.
“I’m not going to tell you what the first play of the game is going to be, if that’s what you’re asking,” Mullen said.
Jones, a junior, has been an inconsistent passer in his first season as the starter. He’s thrown 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and run for one score.
Meanwhile, Richardson, a freshman, has come up with several big plays in limited action. He’s thrown five touchdowns and three interceptions, and has run for three scores.

 

2022 Gator Gymnastics Schedule

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gator Gymnastics looks forward to the return to full competition schedules and full arenas when the 2022 season kicks off in January.
 
This home schedule includes three duals versus teams who advanced to Fort Worth for the 2021 NCAA Championships (Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma). Find the Gators’ complete 2022 schedule below along with information on how to secure your seat in the Exactech Arena for some of the nation’s top meets of the season.
 
Florida’s 2022 Home Schedule:
Florida’s home schedule opens the weekend of Jan. 7 with a quad meet featuring Northern Illinois, Rutgers and Texas Woman’s University. The Gators are home again the next weekend of Jan. 14 for a meeting of the 2021 Southeastern Conference champions – Florida (regular season) and Alabama (championship meet).
 
A fan favorite – the 16th Annual Gators Link to Pink – is set for the final weekend of January. The dual versus Arkansas is part of a SEC initiative to raise breast cancer awareness. Most of the league’s teams participate in a “pink” meet each season.
 
February home action features two of the nation’s top duals of the season – LSU (Feb. 11) and Oklahoma (Feb. 25). Both teams were among the eight team’s advancing to 2021 NCAA Championships, with Oklahoma taking second and LSU finishing sixth.

Independence is a top priority for most aging seniors, and for their families as well. A new program from Amazon for Alexa addresses this directly.

Alexa’s Care Hub is a trusted option in the Alexa app that allows family members to stay informed on their older loved one’s activity (with prior permission from the loved one, of course!)—including getting an alert if the loved one has called out for help.

The augmented Alexa Together service expands on those free features with new ones.

 

  1. Allowing multiple people to join in the support system—ideal when multiple people are involved in care giving. The feature allows for siblings, friends, even involved neighbors to be added to the support system. This latter feature is especially nice if family members don’t live nearby.  
  2. Creating reminders on loved ones’ devices—ideal for things like taking medicines and doctors’ appointments, but also reminders for social events, family zoom calls, you name it.
  3. Allowing participants to remotely add contacts to the family member’s Alexa account, so they can call anyone hands-free, with ease.
  4. Giving access to a hands-free 24-7 emergency hotline. If the family member has an emergency at home, like a fall, they can ask Alexa to call for help. The people connected to the account will get an alert as well, so they can jump in to help. (This is why having a trusted neighbor is great!)
 

Amazon is offering Alexa Together for free for six months, and then charges $19.99 per month to continue the service. It’ll be available later this year (US only), and you can learn more about it here and sign up to get notified when it’s released.
 

Congrats Marlie, Gator Volleyball

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After leading the Gators to a straight-set victory over Texas A&M, Marlie Monserez was named SEC Setter of the Week, as the conference announced Monday.

This is the fourth SEC Setter of the Week honor for Monserez and pushes her to 10 in her career.  

The senior setter dished out 34 assists against the Aggies, averaging 11.33 assists per set in the win. Monserez led the Gators to a .438 clip, the third-highest hitting percentage of the season.

The Windermere, Fla. native also recorded four digs, three kills and two blocks against Texas A&M.

Monserez and the Gators are back in action on Wednesday, taking on the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala. First serve is slated for 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU with Courtney Lyle and Missy Whittemore on the call.
