Homecoming Game Announced

The University of Florida announced on Thursday that its annual homecoming game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 9, against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium — if everything goes as planned.

The Gators are 69-26-2 all-time in their homecoming games, notching a 27-5 mark since 1989. Florida faced the South Carolina Gamecocks last year and prevailed, 38-24, while upsetting then-No. 7-ranked Auburn Tigers in 2019, 24-13. The last time UF hosted Vandy for the annual affair, it snuck away with a 9-7 victory in 2015.

Historically, Florida holds a 42-10-2 edge over Vanderbilt, having won the last seven and 29 of the last 30 — the Commodores’ only win during that stretch came on a 34-17 gut punch in The Swamp back in 2013. Last season, UF left Nashville with a 38-17 victory, and the year prior, the Gators posted a 56-0 blowout win at home.

Football sets Academic Record

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The 2020 football season was one of the most challenging in decades, with teams forced to deal with the loss of spring practice due to COVID-19 and having to constantly adjust to new protocols throughout the season as different challenges related to the global pandemic presented themselves.

Through it all, student-athletes still had to maintain their performance in the classroom, which turned mostly into a virtual learning environment.

Despite those challenges, Florida managed to place 27 scholarship players on the SEC’s Fall Academic Honor Roll. Counting walk-ons, the Gators placed 55 honorees on the list, breaking the SEC league record which was previously held by Arkansas at 47.

🏈 News from EA Sports 🏈

It has been eight years since the last time EA Sports released an NCAA football game, but that looks to change as the video game publisher announced on Tuesday that EA Sports College Football will be returning.

Though it is not yet known when NCAA Football will exactly return, this is certainly a step in the right direction, one that many fans have been waiting for since its untimely end with NCAA Football 2014.

According to EA Sports vice president and general manager, Daryl Holt, via ESPN, the game will feature over 100 teams in the game, partnering with collegiate licensing company CLC, giving the game all of the traditions, uniforms and playbooks to go into the game.

“As we look for the momentum that we’re building on in sports, it all starts with the passion of our fans and the opportunities of what they are interested in,” Holt said via ESPN. “I don’t think a visit where I go outside wearing a piece of EA Sports branded apparel, that someone doesn’t go, ‘Hey, when is college football coming back?'”

The Florida Gators were recently one of the ten teams featured in EA Sports Madden 2020 Face of the Franchise Mode. Former Gators quarterback Tim Tebow was also a cover athlete for NCAA Football 11
