Dangerous Hurricane Dorian threatens…

Rapidly intensifying Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to become a hurricane very soon as it edges closer to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were warned to brace for possible heavy rains and dangerous flash floods, the National Hurricane Center said in its 11 a.m. Wednesday update. The storm is expected to grow in size and could hit Category 3 status before reaching Florida’s east coast by early Monday.

Winds continued to pick up, swirling at 70 mph after the storm made its expected northwest turn overnight.

“The latest advisory from NHC is of concern for Central Florida,” Fox 35 meteorologist Jayme King said of Wednesday’s 11 a.m. update. “The forecast track on Dorian by this weekend brings some startling developments. … All residents from the coast into the interior need to prepare should the latest forecast pan out.”

A hurricane warning was issued at the 11 a.m. advisory for Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. President Trump declared an emergency Tuesday night and ordered federal assistance for local authorities.

🐊 Gator Soccer Wins 🐊

The Florida Gators began their 25th season of women’s soccer in south Florida against last season’s Conference-USA title holders, the Florida Atlantic University Owls.
The Gators were looking to bounce back from a poor last season that was marred by injuries. Florida finished 7-10-4 in the SEC, good enough for eighth, which was their lowest finish since 2000.

🐊 Gators Defeat Canes 🐊

GATORS DEFEAT THE CANES
24 – 20 Nailbiter
Saw a great quote this morning. Would you rather play a difficult game against a capable team, have a close result that reveals a lot of issues that need correction, or a cupcake you win in a blowout that really doesn’t challenge the team.
We should thank Miami for playing the game they did, ultimately we came away with a hard fought victory. The game also allowed the coaches to identify what needs to be corrected during the bye week. All things considered, the Gators never quit, doubted themselves, and know what needs improvement.
Gator Country had a very good perspective:
It wasn’t pretty. There were 23 combined penalties for 225 yards, many of Florida’s coming at the most inopportune times extending Miami drives. Mullen admitted he didn’t call a good game, including going to the air with a lead and 4:30 on the clock instead of just trying to run the game out with your senior running back. Neither team was efficient on third down. It looked like a week 0 game but it was fun. Five lead changes and a last minute Miami drive that ultimately fell short as the Gators won 24-20.
